For a birthday, the best escape room in Paris is not the one with the cleverest puzzles. It is the one that lets everyone play at the same time and leaves you somewhere to blow out the candles afterwards. On that single test, the thirty-odd companies in the city come down to a handful.
We run two of the venues below and we play at our competitors’ regularly. For this list we also called two party organisers who work with half the rooms in Paris. One question: for a birthday, where do you send people?

A room advertised for six players means six maximum, not six comfortably. Past that, the group splits across consecutive sessions, and two back-to-back slots on the same room in one evening are rare in Paris. Half your guests end up waiting on the pavement.
The second thing everyone forgets is what happens after. A birthday does not end at the debriefing, but most Paris venues have no space to carry on and politely show you out ten minutes after the game.
Third, the level of the group. A birthday always includes someone who has never set foot in an escape room. An expert room with no clues and no actor to pull them back in turns that person into a spectator for sixty minutes.
Three numbers explain first place. Missions take 2 to 24 players depending on the scenario, which removes the splitting problem entirely. The site is 3,000 m², including a 300 m² lounge you can privatise for presents and cake. And the price is a flat €36 per person whatever the group size, where every other Paris venue uses a sliding scale.
Four experiences run under official DC Comics licence. Three of them last 70 minutes with actors present throughout, which settles the question of the guest who drifts off: an actor spots within three minutes who is not daring to touch anything.
For children, two advantages. Entry from age 7 with an adult in the team, which is low for Paris. And the Gotham City Race, a 20-minute remote-control car race at €7 for 2 to 10 drivers, combines with the missions: half the group plays while the other races, then you swap.
The opposite choice: not volume, intensity. Two hours of play, 2 to 6 agents, 300 m² of sets built with the designers of the Canal+ series, three actors from start to finish. It is closer to immersive theatre than to an escape room. From €90 per person for two down to €49 for six, with private space to carry on afterwards.
The right choice for four to six people who want to give something that will still be talked about in two years. Warn your guests about the format: two hours in character is not the same promise as an hour of padlocks. This is also the venue that runs an English experience.
Our genuine recommendation for under-12s, and we have nothing to gain from it. A small independent venue on rue Sedaine whose pirate room keeps coming back in what families tell us. The difference is in how the game is run: a game master in costume who never breaks character, and clues given as a nudge rather than an answer. The children feel they solved it, which is exactly the point.
2 to 9 players depending on the room, 60 minutes, €25 to €32 per person. One limitation: there is nowhere to blow out candles, so plan the park or the café next door.
Place de la République, several medieval and esoteric worlds, with mechanisms built in-house rather than bought off the shelf. The birthday advantage is having several rooms at one address: a group of ten splits into two teams playing different scenarios in parallel and meets afterwards with something to tell each other. Far better than two consecutive sessions.
2 to 6 players per room, 60 to 75 minutes, €32 to €73 per person. Google: 5.0/5 on more than 3,300 reviews, one of the largest volumes in the city.
A small team and a level of care few large chains manage. The Gentleman’s Burglary hands you a costume before you go in, which sets the tone of a party from the moment you arrive. Sessions available in English on request.
60 minutes, 2 to 5 players, €19 to €43.50 per person. One of the very few Paris venues with a real off-peak rate, weekdays between midday and 4 p.m. If you can move the birthday to daytime, it is the best value in the city.
Booking too late. Allow ten days for a Saturday evening, more at small venues with only two rooms. The 7 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. slots go first everywhere in Paris.
Giving an approximate number. Venues size their welcome on the number booked, and two unannounced extra people sometimes end up not playing. Call if the group changes.
Forgetting the time on site. A 60-minute session means about an hour and a half on site including briefing. If a restaurant follows, leave room.
More than eight guests, or part of the group has never played: Batman Escape in the 19th. Four to six people who want something memorable: Le Bureau des Légendes in the 6th. Children: Kairos in the 11th.
